Hey everyone,
I’m running into a really strange audio routing issue on macOS and was hoping someone here has seen this before.
**Issue:**
My Master output is completely silent, but audio works normally if I assign my MacBook speakers to the Headphones channel instead. Tracks play, meters move, controller lights react, just no sound on Master.
**Setup**
* macOS (MacBook Air)
* VirtualDJ (current version, also tested older builds)
* Pioneer DDJ-REV1
* Output: MacBook Air Speakers
Audio setup: [https://imgur.com/a/RrBSFzd](https://imgur.com/a/RrBSFzd)
**What’s happening**
* Speaker Only → no sound
* Master + Headphones
* Master → MacBook speakers = silent
* Headphones → MacBook speakers = sound
So effectively, the Headphones bus works, but the Master bus does not, even though they’re using the same device.
If I **disconnect the DDJ-REV1 and restart VirtualDJ**, the **Master output works normally** through the MacBook speakers.
As soon as I reconnect the controller, the Master output goes silent again (while Headphones continues to work).
Context
* My Pro trial expired
* I briefly tried logging into a second account to test the trial
* I then went back to my original account and purchased Pro
Since then, this audio issue has been persistent
No license warnings, controller maps correctly, everything else works.
**What I’ve tried**
* Uninstalling / reinstalling VirtualDJ
* Rolling back to older VirtualDJ versions
* Resetting VirtualDJ config and cache
* Restarting macOS
* Different audio modes (Speaker Only, Computer Audio, etc.)
Issue is identical every time.
The only way I get sound is:
* Master + Headphones
* Master = None
* Headphones = MacBook Air Speakers
That works, but obviously isn’t ideal.
Any help?

When you plug in the controller, VirtualDJ normally detects this and, by default, gives you the option to use either either Computer's soundcard or the DDJ-REV1's soundcard. It also give you a checkbox option to not ask again, and that would mean that what audio output source you choose that time will be used always by default, unless you go into settings and change it.
If you select the controller's soundcard, your audio setup should look like what's listed here by default:
https://www.virtualdj.com/manuals/hardware/pioneer/ddjrev1/installation.html
And the audio routing is normally setup to use the soundcard that the DDJ-REV1 contains (it has ouput channels that allow for you to monitor with headphones as well as play your output out (master)).
If you select your computer audio, then most likely, you would not have enough output channels to do headphone monitoring and do sound output separately.
Is there a reason you are trying to use the computer audio, when the device provides a soundcard suitable for monitoring and playout needs?
