Hi all,
I’m thinking about getting a new Windows tablet/convertible for VirtualDJ – mainly the Asus ROG Flow Z13 GZ302EA (see: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-ROG-Flow-Z13-GZ302EA-Convertible-Review-AMD-s-Strix-Halo-GPU-is-neck-and-neck-with-the-RTX-4070-Laptop.963266.0.html)
Why a Windows tablet?
Relevant specs (short version):
My questions to you:
Thanks a lot for your input! 🙂

Why a Windows tablet?
- Plan: combine it with my old Vestax VCI-400 as a DIY standalone controller.
[] For my new teaching job, I need something more portable.
[] I prefer Windows because Office apps on iOS/Android are quite limited.
[] All the other important Windows programs I use will still work.
[] A powerful yet portable device that can handle real-time stems in VirtualDJ.
Relevant specs (short version):
[] CPU: AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (16c, 3–5.1 GHz)
[] GPU: AMD Radeon 8060S (80W TDP)
[] RAM: 32 GB LPDDR5x-8000
[] Display: 13.4" 2560×1600, 180 Hz, touch + pen
[] Storage: 512 GB SSD
[] Weight: 1.62 kg (+ PSU 571 g)
[] DPC latency: 601.9 ms (source: Notebookcheck)
My questions to you:
[] Is the AMD Radeon 8060S powerful enough for live stems processing in VirtualDJ?
[] Is ~600 ms DPC latency acceptable for running VirtualDJ smoothly?
Thanks a lot for your input! 🙂

FYI: It's 600μs not 600ms.
600ms is terrible/unusable, but 600μs is fine.
I don't know about the GPU though..
PS: 1ms = 1000μs

A nice portable powerhouse enough for stems for some years (DDR5 @8000, 40 CU @ 2.9Ghz and SSD nvme)

You are absolutely right! It's microseconds. Thank your for pointing this out. 😉

I guess the disadvantage of a tablet is the heating factor. My Surface Pro is not able to calculate in real time the 2.0 stems. If I try to bunch 10 tracks for pre-processing, the machine gets very hot, but doesn't fall in thermal cutoff. This is ok, but honestly, I'm not found of doing that because I don't want to shorten the machine life.
I also tried an external gpu and it works fine in real time too. I thought the Surface would be cool, but it warms up and gets mildy hot. It's reasonable. I was just suprised that moving data around would require so much from the Surface.

I have a Lenovo C940 yoga which folds over to a tablet mode. Used it since 2019 (no realtime stems obviously). It gets warm but never roasting and works perfectly every time.

Tablets with processors above 7840U and 780M integrated graphics can run STEAMS 2.0 in real-time.
My tablet is a Lenovo LEGION GO, and it can run STEAMS 2.0 in real-time at around 9x the speed. The Surface Pro isn't quite up to par; it's very slow and can cause the CPU to overheat and shut down. I've experienced this myself.
