I don't understand—lately, I've been afraid to use Virtual DJ. I have a purchased Pro version, not a pirated one. My computer is an i5 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, running Windows 11.
I've done everything recommended on social media: adjusted latency, set Windows to high performance, enabled exclusive audio mode. Yet, from time to time, the sound crackles with my Rane Four controller or pops when I mix directly on my computer. I'm worried about my performances starting again in April. What should I do?
Recently, I was at an event for a photo booth service, and the DJ performing for the dance floor experienced the same crackling issue during his set. The audience was frustrated, and so was he—I felt embarrassed for him. He was using Virtual DJ. Now, I have a phobia of this happening to me.
At one of my holiday events, at the beginning of my set during the warm-up, the same thing happened to me. I had to reboot the program—what a shame. What can I do to fix this problem?

Have you adjusted the latency in the ASIO control panel?

thank you for your answer . I see the buffer preference in ASIO now i see 256. To have better sound I have to put it at how much. Thank you

You can try 512 but if you have the same problem try the asio4all drivers I solved the problem of annoying digital clicks that I had when I used the original drivers of my three Pioneer controllers.

No, please don't do that!
ASIO4ALL is not an actual ASIO driver, just a driver that uses the standard (non-ASIO) Windows audio but fools software into thinking there's an ASIO interface when there isn't one.
It's designed for use with software that can only output through an ASIO interface, which is NOT the case with VDJ or in fact most software these days.
TL;DR if you do have an ASIO interface, or your software can use WASAPI & MME then ASIO4ALL is pointless.

Thanks, friends! I increased the latency in ASIO from 256 to 512. I'll see the results while practicing over the weekend. I'll keep you posted.

asio4all solved all my problems, it sounds better than the original pioneer drivers, while I also had problems with wasabi that on RZ and RZX does not make the pre-listening in headphones work, it was the Virtual DJ technicians who recommended asio4all after checking what was happening, I set the asio4all control panel and now everything works perfectly with any of my 3 controllers and with a latency of only 5ms!

Great but if it doesn't work follow my advice, use asio4all, set their control panel well and you will solve every problem 99%

TLDR;
VDJ + PC with Intel processor= hot garbage.
VDJ + PC with Rizen processor = much better
VDJ + MacBook = VDJ with zero tweaking or worry at all. Just get a Mac, even an older one is fine.
Mobile DJ, 25 years of experience. I had the same problem with audio drop out and crackling. I was using a Lenovo Legion AMD Rizen 7 with no issues that replaced an older Legion with an AMD Rizen processor that also had no issues. The GPU was just to old for good sounding stems. Both were plug and play, no adjustments I can remember, no problems. Then it got rained in during a gig when the venue put us under a leaky roof and didn't tell us. Completely Fried. I replaced it with a "superior" newer Legion with an Intel i7 and much more powerful GPU. I used Legion because they all had the same power adapter and in the past they had never given me any issues whatsoever. Then the problems started. Sometimes it would drop out and crack, sometimes it was fine, but I could never really trust it. Nothing I did fixed the issue. Multiple controllers tried as well. So I bought one with an even better GPU and an more powerful i9 even though the minimum requirements say it is way overkill. Same issue. Tried it on a completely different brand of PC, also with an intel processor. Same issue. I downloaded latency monitor software and it quickly let me know that the background processes were causing the latency issues and heat issues related to the cracking. I did everything under the sun for months and it never really got better. I read all the forums, watched all the audio optimization videos and followed every recommendation to improve latency. Even if I set the VDJ latency and buffering size really high to make it really slow and tried to disable all the background processes windows will automatically turn them back on and there is nothing you can do about it. The Intel processors are faster and perfect for high end gaming but I think they lack the multi tasking the AMD processors have because of their hyper-threading abilities, but I was done fighting with it and wasting money. I was not willing to get another PC to risk the same issue and they didn't make the one I wanted with an AMD anymore anyway. It might have fixed the issue, but I broke down and bought a MacBook, even though I try to avoid Apple whenever I can. People say Mac's are really expensive, but it cost about the same as the i9 I had, and i had already flushed almost 4k on the 2 PCs anyway. This is my first Mac and the only thing I can say is i was an IDOIT to not get one sooner. There is a learning curve for sure but IT JUST WORKS. No "tweaking" no "optimizing" for music production and performance. IT JUST WORKS. No headaches, no stress, no more hassle, no more being mortified when the sound takes a dump during the Bride and Grooms first dance with everyone watching. As a bonus I can also perform an entire 8hr gig without needing to plug it in either. I don't because I'm not dumb, but I tested it and I could with battery to spare if i needed to. The battery lasts forever. My PC's died in less than about 80 min without a power source even on battery save the entire time. They are ideal for gaming but trash for VDJ. I wish I had a better solution, but with Windows you will always need to be adjusting and optimizing something and it still might suck. I hate to say it, but the solution is to buy a MacBook and move on. BTW the other DJ software brands did not give me this issue, they were fine, just VDJ. But they all work better on Mac.

On my M4 Macbook air it doesn't have enough bandwidth to support two external screens as one keeps going off and on the Macbook Pro M4 Pro VDJ kept randomly crashing and I couldn't figure out why.
Tried Mac but it's not a solution for everyone.

Tbh I had recently installed and used VirtualDJ on a maybe an aversge MSI Thin 15 gaming computer (Intel Core i5 13th gen, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Home, NVidia GeForce RTX 4050 with 566.14 studio driver and updated WiFI driver (updated for a different issue - issues with OBS streaming which is what I used it for) and used it for about 2 hrs as a trial with performance mode optimizations/performance profile), with a DJM-S11 and DDJ-1000 (set to 512 samples (10ms) first (default for MacOS at least for the S11, and then dropped the latency for the S11 Settings Utility to 256 samples) Phase and turntables and had no dropouts in any case, and I didn't really make any serious configuration changes for audio in VirtualDJ outside of setting latency first to 512 and then to 0 (which seems to make it match the latency of the soundcard's driver settings) - full stems 2.0 support and scanning on load was enabled. The only time I heard audible clicks/drops was when the latency settings in VirtualDJ didn't match (like having 512 samples in VirtualDJ but the ASIO driver set to 64 samples).
I may actually take it out for a full gig to see. I also (about 1.5 hrs ago) just tried running that same laptop with the S11 again for about 45 mins with the latest Stable release (b8909), and dropped the latency in the ASIO driver settings to 64 samples (1.3 ms) and still, no drops/crackles that were obvious to me
I'll have to do a more thorough test (e.g. the same low latency settings with the DDJ-1000 running all 4 decks with chained effects and whatever else that could be intensive) to check too.
The reality is your mileage may vary with machines - but you can't write off an entire architecture/OS because it didn't work in the cases you tried.
