Have a Rane Four controller, when I press the sync button on the controller on both decks, I would like to see the sync button activated or highlighted on the virtual decks so I know sync is engaged. Is this possible? Thanks

In VirtualDJ, sync is not something that stays either on or off. It's a temporary action.

Can you elaborate on that? The sync button on the controller is lit up when pressed. Sync is not on in the software?

"Sync" is actually an action in VirtualDJ, not a mode, nor a state.
However, on some controllers the SYNC button will turn on under the following conditions:
1) The BPM of the tracks is the same, and/or
2) The tracks are in phase (have their beats aligned)
Rane Four uses is_sync for the SYNC button led.
Which means that the led turns on when BPM is equal (when the deck is not playing), or when BPM is equal and phase is correct (when the deck is playing)
The sync button on the VirtualDJ GUI is not programmed to follow this logic.
Also this logic is not used globally on all controllers.
However, on some controllers the SYNC button will turn on under the following conditions:
1) The BPM of the tracks is the same, and/or
2) The tracks are in phase (have their beats aligned)

The main thing here:
Serato f***** up years ago and implemented sync as pitch lock/beat lock, and now a lot of people thinks that is how sync should act
It's not - These things should be separated
Sync should be for syncing (action) - like in VDJ
Beat lock and pitch lock should be for for locking - like in VDJ
