Topic: Verzeichnis ändern / Externe Festplatte
Hallo,
wahrscheinlich schon oft gefragt.

Dirk

VDJ creates a database on each drive that contains media.

If you use VDJ to copy/ move the tracks/media to an external drive, VDJ will create the corresponding needed database for all your cues, saved loops, and tag info on the external drive during the process.

This is done from the within the Drives folder

(NOTE: the new database will NOT be created if the copy/move is done with the OS, and will not have cues etc)

Important to use VDJ to copy/move the tracks to the external drive.

And the external harddisk can now be connected to any Macbook with Virtual DJ installed. (your goal), since the data base will be on the external drive.

----------------

Also good practice to do regular Database backups (and in this case, before and after the copy/move):

@ IIDEEJAYII:

I am not exactly clear what your final goal is?

Yes copying the music folder to your external drive WILL create the database on the external drive with the cues, POI and tag info.

1) Do you then want to use the external drive as your source of music for both computers?

2) Do you then want to once again copy the music to the 2nd computer, and use some syncing method to keep both identical?

If it is choice 1), then maybe better to MOVE the music to the external drive. (since copying you will have 2 copies of the track on one computer and if you modify hotcues external drives copy, what do you wish to do with the other duplicate file on the internal drive)
The MOVE will also update all Virtual folders so the tracks in each point to the external drive, (if you make copy I believe the Virtual folders tracks still point to the internal drive location (unchanged) not to the external drives copy.

-------
Experiment/play to understand fully first.

Before doing the entire Music folder, it is probably wise to choose a music folder with a small number of tracks (1-5), then experiment moving that folder of 5 tracks, to the external drive.
First making a Test Virtual folder with those, say 5 tracks, in it, and with "File Path" column displayed, so you can experiment with the MOVE vs COPY. You can MOVE the music folder from within VDJ (R-click menu >File Operations > Move to ) to the external drive.. check if that is what you want. You can see that the database is being created and all is working, that Virtual folders point to the tracks on the external drive, history points to the external drive etc. That VDJ is working perfectly with the tracks the Test Virtual folder you created, with the 5 tracks.

One can MOVE the folder with the 5 tracks back to the original location, on the internal drive at any time also. (may want to do that so you can do a single clean MOVE, of the entire Music folder, once you are happy all is working as you like)
---------

When you have your plan as to your intended use determined, and understand how the MOVE works, you can MOVE the entire MUSIC folder.

Note: May also need to select the external drive/folder and choose Batch > Add to Search DB.

You can still make routine backups of your entire external drive, at times to ensure you do not loose tracks/music.

And as mentioned:
It is a good practice to do regular Database backups (and in this case, before and after the copy/move):
