Need help deciding guys. Which is more vdj friendly? I tried vdj on the SRT a while back and noticed the auto pfl wasn't working, can it work on either one now? Thanks

Both should work well ;-)
As for "auto headphones", on Pioneer controllers its usually made to operate with the channel cue buttons so you manually select what channel to pre-listen in headphones.
Try with autoheadphones and pflonselect both on in settings, if you have the controller at hand..

I tried every way. Just couldn't get it to work When I load a deck from my keyboard I'd like that deck's pfl to light up and be active on the controller... The ddj 800 does that very well.

There are enough posts on forums explaining the differences between the two.
No need to repeat the info.
However, the most important difference is Software (for DDJ-1000) vs External (for DDJ-1000SRT) mixer mode.
With External mixer mode, autopfl, Sandbox and a few other features don't work.

I definitely recommend the DDJ-1000 over the SRT for Virtual DJ.
