I see with stems nvidia gtx 9XX is recommended but are there other graphics cards that will work?

Is the riquirememt for the nvidia gtx 9XX because of the 2gb vram?
 

More likely it's architecture and parallel processing power [how it makes to ones & zeros dance]. I believe I read somewhere that for windows machines nvidia gtx 8XX is the minimum.

Nvidia 7xx and better should all work.

And no other cards will currently. Its made to work on that architecture/gpu features
 

is that GT, GTX and Quadro?
