I suggest you to buy PropellerHeads Reason 2.5, for the beginning and if you want a software.

Rebirth
Reason

All good pieces of software. All have a different function and purpose, but what can be accomplished using these is amazing. Reason is by far the most complex but useful, a good place to start. Oh, add Cool Edit Pro to that list too.
