I am trying to record using an external mixer and VDJ on the laptop, connected via Splitter. Am I missing something? A couple years ago, I called tech support and we figured it out. (possibly couldve been audacity support) Ugh,

What you're missing is more information, so we can give you a solution. What external mixer?
Why have you used a capital letter on Splitter? Is that the name of something, or are you talking about a splitter cable? How is that connected?
