Just Purchased this controller for my macbook pro I have a pro infinity license I was using a hercules mixer was wondering if there is a skin for the ddj 1000 to d/l or do I need to have my controller connected before I can download the skin?

There's no special skin for DDJ-1000, nor it's necessary to have one for the controller to operate properly up to 100% of it's potential.
You can use ANY skin you like and your controller will still operate the same.
However it's recommended to use a modern skin with PADS e.t.c. in order to have the best possible experience.
Default skin of VirtualDJ 2020 should cover all your needs, but you can still browse around for another one if you like
