I've been bedroom producing for about 20 years. Here are a few of my favorite cheap options:

Full on DAW:
Acoustica Mixcraft. Easy to use bargain priced DAW that works great in my opinion.

If you want a more simple sampler/sequencer:

SugarBytes Egoist

Fxpansion Geist 2

Great hardware option: used Akai MPC Touch or Live
