I'm having an issue using my kontrol x1 mk1 with virtual dj 8. I can only use the knobs but it doesn't detect any of the button inputs and none of the leds light up when I make them active in th software

Have you installed the drivers ? https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/

Yes I have installed the latest drivers. It works fine in the native instruments traktor software. I can also see all buttons work in controller editor software

In controller editor you must use the default template.
If you load another template or modify the default one, VirtualDJ won't be able to recognize the buttons as it expects the default MIDI notes.

Thank you very much. It works now after changing it to default.
May I ask why the one that comes with the vdj mapper doesn't work

VDJ Mapper does not come with a template. VDJ Mapper assumes that the default template is used.
