I've been looking at getting a new contoller and I have been told that I would have to upgrade to Virtual dj 8 to use most of them, is this true? Also does virtual dj 8 have an option to roll it back to virtual dj 7 (Skin/ options, etc.) as i've had a go on my friends and for me it has too many things on it and I was quite happy with 7 and the way it is set up.

Yes, all new controllers from the last couple of years only works with v8
v7 is deprecated so no work is done on it anymore - which also means that it supports none of the new controllers
v8 is a separate program, so you can install it next to v7 and have both on your laptop at the same time
On a side note: It looks like your a free home edition user. You need to buy some kind of license for VDJ to work with a controller. This applies to both v7 and v8

VirtualDJ 7 & VirtualDJ 8 are 2 completely different programs. For that reason you cannot roll back from VDJ8 to VDJ7. VDJ7 has not been supported for 3 years, therefore, new controllers produced in the last 3 years only work with VDJ8. VDJ7 plugins/skins etc. have been removed from the downloads section of the website. VDJ8 is miles better than VDJ7, the sound engine alone is so much better quality. VDJ8 is more customisable than any other DJ program on the market. After the initial purchase it is free updates for life, unlike other programs, I purchased mine in 2007 and have not spent another penny since.
Klause beat me to it lol.

HI thank you for your replies, I have got a paid licence for 7 but being lazy I've just signed in on here via my google account. I appriciate that it will be better but what I dislike about 8 is there is too many bells and whistles on it as I only use it for simple tasks, rarely use it for mixing as I prefer to do it on cd's. Is there a simple skin (Without all the extra buttons.) on 8 like the default one on VDJ 7?

There are a number of skins that can be customised such as V8 by Fruit, Controller HD by DennYo, Blocks by DJDaD.
They look very complicated when first loaded, but, there's loads of options in the menus to switch off various parts of the screen to make it look simpler.
I'm currently using Blocks which gives the option of switching off whole sections or "blocks/panels" i.e. mixer, video, FX, pads, recording panel and inputs/outputs panel. I have them all switched off when DJing apart from the mixer, this give loads more screen space for the browser and keeps the display simple.
This is one of the best parts about VDJ8, it can be totally customised to every individuals taste. Can't do that with those 'other' DJ programs.
Hope you find a skin suitable for your needs.
Cheers
Les
P.S. Have you checked out the Default skin for VDJ8?

What's wrong with v8 for house music exactly?

If you had a Pro licence it would be downloadable from this site. Otherways it's deprecated and no longer available.
