Topic: Question about MP3 file names

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

This post is not exactly about Virtual DJ but it's related. I was updating some tag information on some the MP3's in my large song library and I noticed that there are now a whole lot of files that have long numeric filenames and no file type. Turns out they are legitimate MP3 files but I don't know how the names got that way. I have a 90,000 song library and there must be 5000 or more of these types of numeric files.

Anyone able to tell me how that might have happened and whether there's any automated way to fix it?

Where did you get the files? What do these files have in common, same folder, same drive, etc?

2 things spring to mind corrupt drive or virus.

if you give one of these changed files a .mp3 extension and try to play what happens [scan with virus scanner before testing]
can you system restore?

Also, back up back up back up, don't keep all your eggs in one basket.
