I like the simple 2 deck default skin for video work. But when a track is playing I cannot read the key on the deck, time and bpm are ok.
Can this be rectified?

You would have to edit the skin yourself or ask the creator of the skin of they could edit for you.

I suppose I could do that myself.
There again maybe not..the default skins are not in the skin folder, perhaps they can be downloaded or something?

Yes, when you choose the default skin. a download link in the bottom right of the screen will appear

to get a copy of default go to interface menu and look for the link at the bottom right

there are other ways that reskinning, custom buttons and display the key by making the name `get_key` pads can do this too,
