You don't need a music player or anything else.

VDJ library management is the best in the business if you know how to use it properly. Nothing external needed.

I'm with Keith. VDJ is great for tagging your files once you get the hang of it. It is a little slower but worth it in the end.

What is it you are trying to do?? Let's start there and see if we can't help you out.

And yes iTunes is horrible.

MEDIAMONKEY.
Period. Fidizuck Itunes.
I use it as a complete media library Manager, that also organizes my dj environment. I can then export that into vdj as an itunes export. I also have it on my desktop and laptop to keep them both in sync and updated, well with the help of FreeFileSync. I can surely help you get through it and pass on scripts that help the dj.

I use advanced renamer [before even adding to vdj] to get my files named as so,
Artist - Title, feat. (Remix)
uses regex and for renaming an album at a time isn't that difficult (like 20 seconds to do an album)
that way even if the tags are wrong it's quick to parse [inside vdj] the basic tags from file name.

If you've got files already cue'd but miss tagged, and not the correct name for parsing tags, things to speed up tag editing

select all files in an album/ep ctrl+a, sort out the constants [album name, delete useless comments]

working on single files

alt+n (next file)
tab (tab down the text boxes)
shift+tab (tab up the text boxes)

alt+enter (ok)

once that's sorted you should be good to select all files of an album again and rename file Artist - Title (remix) from tag entries

I recently attacked my database xml with regex and np+, it's a bit risky as a newb (I made a couple of copies of the database every couple of regex passes and still messed up a few times)
also used my library plugin and my own filters to check stuff between regex passes [still got a couple of hundred files to drop track number off the start]

I use tag&rename before importing in VDJ or itunes. Very easy to change the tags of a whole cd. After importing VDJ is very good for anything else...

Agreed. I use MP3tag to tag the track and add art. After that everything else is managed from within VDJ.

Do any of these alternatives do MP4's as well fellas??

I'm more concerned with video but I do have mp3's as well, lol!

Most of my music is ripped from CD, using Exact Audio copy to rip in Flac codec. I use a GD3 plugin which cost £7 to import metadata. I can add other stuff at that point to. Everything else I add myself within VDJ, like ratings, colours, release year, decade etc. Other stuff is downloaded from Qobuz or Juno Download in high res and comes tagged. Would be great if VDJ could partner with a metadata company though so you could just press a button in the tag editor to search and populate.

Huey,

MP3tag does MP4 perfectly as well. I tag all my videos exactly the same as the music files.

Posted Fri 16 Dec 16 @ 10:38 pm
VDJ8 through the amp and speakers in the house.

Yup, I just load up a playlist in VDJ's auto mix and then stream it wirelessly to Apple TV in any room I'm in.
