Topic: Midi controller keeps disconnecting from VDJ

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

hi, im using a numark mixdeck express on my laptop with vdj7, never had any problems for a good year or two with it but recently my controller (mixdeck express) will connect, then after a bit it changes the setting from "midi PC" to the default setting on the unit. It will connect on VDJ7 so its not a connection issue, it just disconnects after a few mins. Never had any problems with it before so its strange, tried everything in config on the settings and still the same? thanks

Hello,

It may be useful to know your computer settings (version of Windows, version of VirtualDJ 7, do you use Mixdeck Express in ASIO (with ASIO4ALL) or in WDM/WASAPI).

a) Possible explanation: electrostatic issue, if the disconnection occurs while you touch the controller.
=> Solution = check the USB cable, power the computer and Mixdeck Express on the same multiple plug outlet, and, if you think the USB plug may be slightly damaged on the computer or on Mixdeck Express, place a USB hub powered by a power adapter between the computer and Mixdeck Express

b) Possible explanation: USB port going in sleep mode in Windows
=> Solution: disable USB power saving option
Make sure you have disabled the Windows preset made to save energy on the USB
This preset is set on by default, and it may disconnect the DJ controller on the computer.
Right-click on My computer > Properties > Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers,
Right-click on the first line "USB Root Hub" and click "Properties"
Go to the tab "Power Management", and uncheck the box "Allow computer to turn off this device to save energy"
Click "OK" and close the dialogue box
Repeat the same operation on each line called USB Root Hub or USB hub.

c) Possible explanation : background task interfering with the DJ operations
=> Solution: kill any background operation, and more precisely
1) Switch off the Wifi, Bluetooth, and any other network connection
2) Disable Windows preset made to save energy on the USB.
3) Close any background software as antivirus, downloading tasks,
4) If possible, move the mouse far from the USB port where you plug the DJ controller
5) In Windows 7 or in Windows Vista, avoid Aero graphic theme.
6) Adjust your computer settings for the best performance
7) Set your computer "Power plan" on "High performance".

d) Possible explanation in Windows 7 or before: conflict with a Logitech webcam driver/program
=> Solution: remove Logitech webcam driver/program from the list of programs
