HI Guys,
Looking for a suggestion between the two controllers.
My kids been using VDJ with auto-mix for their parties so far, and on some of the larger events we will hire a DJ's.
Looking to surprise them with a controller they could play with, and when we have DJ's over they could use as well.
Any suggestions which will do better with VDJ will be appreciated.

Picking a controller is like picking a car. You have to decide what features you like, cost, how does it feel, and what do you plan on doing in the future. It doesn't matter what I like, but what are the features and functions that work best for you. I suggest that you or your sons, do a hands on comparison to see which works better for you. Otherwise, you will get feedback from DJs here that will probably be split 50/50.

I've owned both and the Denon was definitely built better then the Pioneer.
The Pioneer has that Filter fade but that can be mapped to the Denon or any midi controller for that matter.
The Denon has 2 mics as well, sounds good and should last a while.
But as AMAHM you should definitely try the 2 out and make your decision.

We did drive to our local Guitar Center, they showed both in stock, but had neither to demo...

I'd go with the Denon it also has better FX controls.
In my opinion its just an all around better controller.

The Pioneer DDJ-SB2 is mostly an entry level controller
The Denon DJ MC4000 is more like a pro level controller
I would say that the Denon DJ MC4000 is more comparable to the Pioneer DDJ-SR

If I had to choose, I would also go with the Denon. These are the things that matter to me.
1. It has 2 mic inputs, with separate attenuation and eq. I have to have this in any controller.
2. It has a booth out, also a must have for me.
I don't like the position of headphone, microphone jacks, and the attenuation knob for the mic, on the Pioneer unit.
It's the small things that you have to look for that makes or breaks a controller. This is why I stress that everyone actually touches the controller, or they may be disappointed when they get home. These are my personal preferences, and may not affect your decision at all.
