Please Ron stop there, AMAHM is a very well respected straight talking guy on here and you are not going to get anywhere bringing this into a slanging match.

And for the record you have got to see the funny side of what you did with that iron, it's like me telling the world I stepped into a gas tank and lit a cigarette... and for the record, I didn't, it was a swimming pool.

Tayla I did see the funny side of it which is why I posted it!
That does not give the right to an official of this forum to repeatedly use it as a means of attack.
A moderator should attempt to be fair, and impartial.
AMAHM abuses his moderating power.

Why can't we have a proper, low profile moderator who steps in at the right time, for the right reason.
We should not even know his name.
He should just be the moderator, and when he goes off duty another impartial official should take his place.

AMAHM does not know what impartial means, and he's too high profile.

Just to balance up my comment, AMAHM is an excellent active forum member worthy of respect.

It's probably because every time you come into a topic, you take it off track. What are you discussing right now, and now me by extension? This post is about someone asking about laptop specs and trying to choose a new one. And here we are, yet again, talking about something completely different because you started with your nonsense.

I'll ask you like I asked in my post where you did this... will you please stay on the original topic?

I see people buying laptops with a small screen for DJ'ing... I don't DJ but that seems like a bad idea to me and have wondered about this. Maybe it is you are doing most things with your controller? Smaller screen generally equals lower cost but I don't think that should be a primary factor for your use case.

I would not get either of those machines. AMD is just not in the running for me. I don't have any personal experience with it, then again, I don't know anyone that does. The dual core is dated to me. We are talking about the core of your arsenal. I am serious when I say "get what you want and need, not what you can afford". We are not talking about a car or a house. We are talking about $1200 to $2000. Do carpenters buy $2.00 hammers from the dollar store? Which one of you is going up on the roof with the $10.00 16ft extension ladder? Either wait until you have the money, or charge it, but do not buy a wimpy machine just because that is all you can afford. You don't have to get this years top of the line, but I always buy last years top of the line. This is a big boy sport, buy the equipment that will give you peace of mind.

With the computer, laptop or desk top, it is our heart. Without it nothing happens. I suggest following these words of AMAHM. Well put A-man.:)

To bring it back on topic......

I have used amd for many years and never had any issues, very good for the money, however the intel I series are great chips, a sweet spot in cpu design....

I run an i3 and a i5, my main gig laptop being .... The i3!, this machine is my gig oc because of its size, battery life and screen, which are ideal for me.
It obviously optimised to a degree for gigging, and I don't have any performance issues at all, I don't run video all night, mainly audio and karaoke. But I do run milkdrop, etc, external screens running at 1080p
As I have said this works for me. If I was picking a new machine it would be an i5 or i7.

I do get what AMAHM says, check out the quality of the machine as well as its core specs, you need a machine that is up to the job both physically and performance wise, strong chassis, good cooling, easy to service etc

Windows 7 or 10, call me and stick in the mud, but I still prefer 7, its just the user interface on 10 gets me down, I end up dropping to the command line to get things done quickly!
I guess its because my computer experience come from the business end of computing were functionality is more important than the glossy interface, again just my opinion

So my ideal machine would be a built like a tank, heavy, 21' full hd windows7, i7 8gb , duel 2tb ssd, and an 8 hour battery life

Lol, just head In that direction until you have stretched your budget to the kin limit.....

Personally I'd go for the fastest i5 i could find. The fastest at normal, not turbo boost. Due to power saving, increasing battery life etc (something we don't need), intel chips seem to be going for even slower, normal speeds with greater jumps in turbo boost, which is no good for us.

i7 main sell point is hyperthreading, which i'm not a fan of when concerning audio. I'd rather have a fast i5 over a slow i7, price should work even more in your favour.

Intel Window 7, so far 5 year, problem = 0

About the windows version...I would now not part with Win10 on my 2.4ghz Intel dual core, 5gb ram, 1000gb hdd laptop. There could be a disaster around the corner, however once encountered I think it could be resolved.

I'm having no problems related to turning off the Win10 update service, but do have a resultant laptop performance boost.

As far as I can see I can use all the VDJ8.2 resources on offer. However I only use two decks since the sampler can play whole songs. Playing and scratching videos on both decks whilst using Milkdrop8 or SMS texting via Tellyvisuals to large screen TV's is not a problem.

For a beginner who wants to do video work I would recommend a minimum of an Intel i3, 4gb ram, and 1000gb hdd.
Better is a bonus !
Get what you can afford.
