I purchased virtual dj 8.1 today. I drag a file to a sample bank and edit with sample editor. Select the section, then try and save, it doesn't really save. Then I have to X out of Sanple Editor and it prompts whether I want to save, I try, but nothing happens. So, I have to X out. Then I find that a vdjsamples file indeed gets created in however the root Samples Bank, not the bank that I dragged my original file I was going to sample from. Anyways, so I try to play the sample that .vdjsamples, but no audio sounds. Then I open the same file itself using Sample Editor, but it's blank..a black strip when there should be wave form audio information.
What am I doing wrong? Has anyone experienced the issue. I uninstalled and reinstalled virtual dj several times too. Sample Editor does't work for me.

From where? What sort (format) of file is it? If it's a sample which is stored inside a ZIP file then you can't edit it unless you extract it from the ZIP first.
The vdjsample files that are created by the sampler are not audio files. They just contain metadata about what you edited from the original file (so that your original is not modified). The original file is still required.

The file is an mp3 file and I try to chop off a little piece to create a sample. Not in a zip file. I got a response from Atomix saying its a bug.
They said:
yes, i confirm that is a regression bug of the last version of Virtualdj.
It will be fixed in the next update.
