Topic: Virtual DJ 8 on Windows 10 PC - Cannot Connect to VDJ Servers

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,

I have a Windows 10 PC running Virtual DJ 8, I have the monthly subscription of the "PRO Unlimited" plan and the software connects to the VDJ servers to authenticate when I open the app. I use my account login and pass and it says in black bold text on the login screen "Cannot connect to Virtual DJ Servers...". So I can't authenticate my license and use the software as I need to. I have port 8000 open, are there any other ports I need to open? My antivirus is ESET Security Suite, latest edition and I added exceptions in that software as well. Can anyone help?

Thank you very much,

Greg

This usually only happens when people have previously installed a cracked VDJ version on their system...

The crack modifies your computer's 'hosts' file and prevents VDJ from connecting.

Please use http://www.virtualdj.com/plugins/index.html?addonid=80191 to clean your hosts file, then try again.

If cleaning Hosts doesnt help, then most likely its your Antivirus that is blocking connection. Either you need to add an exception in your Antivirus settings or disable it while VirtualDJ is running.

Okay, thanks for the info, I've never had a cracked version of VDJ on my system before so my HOSTS file should be clean and standard. I'll retry looking through my antivirus exceptions and see if I forgot to add one in some aspect of the software. I will post my results shortly.

So I ran the plugin to fix the HOSTS file anyway, just to be sure, and it said "No changes to host file detected". I went in ESET Security Suite 8 and added IDS, HIPS, Firewall, and General exceptions for inbound and outbound connections from/to the VirtualJD8.exe file and set the app to be recognized by my router and let through. I also opened up port 8000 TCP/UDP. Port 80, 443, and others are already forwarded for TCP/UDP. After all these changes, VirtualDJ 8 still says "cannot connect to virtual dj servers, please make sure you're connected to the internet". Is there anything else I can do to make the program connect to the servers? I am paying for a PRO plan and want to use it on my PC. The interesting thing is, I have my laptop I take to gigs with Virtual DJ 8 installed. The laptop is a Macbook Pro with the latest version of OSX installed, I only use it for music with Ableton Suite 9 and Virtual DJ 8 PRO. The macbook has no problems connecting to the VirtualDJ Servers using the same wifi and the same account credentials for my VDJ 8 PRO account as I am trying to use on my Windows 10 PC. Any ideas? Thanks again for helping!

UPDATE! ***PROBLEM SOLVED***

I decided to go into the VirtualDJ 8 directory in C:\Program Files (X86). I right clicked on the VDJ8 executable file and clicked on 'properties'. Then I went into the window that opened, I clicked on the "compatibility" tab. In that tab I checked the box for "run this program as an administrator" and then clicked apply. I also clicked "change setting for all users" and checked the "run program as administrator" box for that, clicked apply, and then clicked OK to exit the window. Lo and behold, I was able to connect to the VirtualDJ 8 servers with my VDJ8 PRO account credentials with no problems and my input devices were turned on and activated. To anyone else reading this with the same problem of "cannot connect to the Virtual DJ servers"... make sure to run the VDJ8 executable as administrator if you're using Windows 10, and also to add firewall and antivirus exceptions for TCP/UDP Inbound/Outbound connections to the executable. Additionally I port forwarded and added a setting to allow the app through my router's firewall as well.

So, it's fixed, and thanks a lot for your help and suggestions, guys! Time to get back to mixing! It might be useful to others with this problem if this thread is made a "sticky".

Thanks!

Actually, VDJ 8 doesnt need admin rights anymore.
V7 did though.

Indeed, if you do need to launch it with administrator rights it probably indicates that your firewall is still blocking it otherwise.
