I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, so here is a screen shot. You can see in the "VirtualDJ" logo in the upper left and around the platters. It's almost like anti-aliasing is turned off. I'm also missing random lines on the pots and cross fader.
I think this started after I used the video output for a slideshow once. It runs smoothly and everything works, it just looks bad.

If I rename settings.xml to settings.old and restart, it looks great! So it's definitely something in the settings... I'm going to try pressing all the buttons.

Figured this out. I compared line by line the settings on my current laptop with a fresh install on an identical laptop. I must have changed videoResampleQuality to "High" (because who wants "Medium" quality?). I changed it back to Medium and that brought back the nice skin.
