If i subscribe to this, am i able to keep copy of cached songs on backup machine or would i need a subscription per computer?

You can copy and save your cache. If you cache on one machine, they will not show on the other machine, unless you copy and paste the cache. You can only cache on one machine at a time.

Yes but because they are DRM protected if i download to machine 1, copy that cache to machine 2, in the event of machine one failing, will the copied cache work on machine 2?

If you sign in to the backup machine with the same VDJ account as the primary then refresh the DRM they should play fine.
