Topic: database in wrong folder

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hi
i was just scanning some new music, went verify inside the database file and surprise ! new database is not in the default folder ! !
but VDJ is recording it in my hard disk instead ...(default virtualdj folder is not in my hard disk but inside my PC)

How can i make VDJ record new scans in the database file inside the folder in my PC ?

thanks !

If you are using a non system drive to store music, VDJ will create the DB on that drive so it can be hot swapped. This is normal behaviour.

Only songs added from C drive will be on the database in your Ducuments > VirtualDJ folder,

In case you need a copy of the database if you don't have the drive you could write a .bat script that will back it up for you every 5 minutes or whatever timing you need.

I finally found the way to bypass this (wich corroborates kradcliffe's reply)
- copied some music from the hard disk to PC music folder
-erased database file from HDD and all virtualdj folder
-disconnect HDD from PC
-open VDJ, scan music inside PC
-new database file appeared in virtualdj folder in PC
-Connected HDD again to scan the other music
now the scan data is going to PC folder.
Thanks guys :)

That ".bat" file idea is not bad at all.

What's the point of storing the informations on your C database?

If you ever don't have your HDD connected, VDJ will still show you all tracks (because the info is in the C database), but you are not able to play the songs. The stored filepath will point to your HDD and VDJ will show you an "error" while trying to load the track.

You will never know which song is availabe the way you do it.

I think i forgot to say external disk instead of HDD.
I have a laptop, a PC.
My music directory backup is the external disk, so whenever i do any description changes to my music i do it inside the external disk.
I have a folder called "music update" in wich i put all new songs and new descriptions.
Every time i get,i reorganize those songs in each folder, any music folder in my laptop and PC is an exact replica of whats in the external disk.
one VDJ database for both (allways backed up) both PCs are connected together so its all done fast and easy.
I personally dont find it very complicate as long as I update it every week.
I still dont know why database was updating in external disk instead of PC as it did before, but seing it that way, database file will be directly in the external disk
so ready to backup. Its better in some way.
