Like many others I have amassed thousands of tracks over the years, I currently keep them all on an external hdd in individual album form and any singles I drop into a various folder.
Obviously some of the albums come with duplicate tracks on them so if I play it from lets just say album A it wont show on album B that it has been played, also it can become tedious
trawling through albums looking for a specific track.
Does anyone have any handy tips on arranging music files to make life a bit easier during a session?
Thanks.

I have lumped all my files into decades from 1940's thru 2010's in the main folder Music. I used to do as you do and had too many duplicates; now I have none.

I think date may be the way to go, I also thought about arranging them by genre but that may be a tedious process.

Create a filter folder - group by genre - done.
