Here is a link for some free samples of various types

Once you have some samples they can be assigned to a controller pad using the sampler name, and its folder, hence you can fire them from within VDJ 8 .
It appears the VDJ 8 sampler might be quite a good drum machine.
Note: The above use of the sampler does not interfere with its primary purpose.

Thanks for the link and yup this is something I've been doing for quite some time now.
I always find a few tracks that need a little more kick or snare so I load up a drum kit and go to town.
This is also a great way to practice staying in time with a track. It's something that'll carry over when drumming cue points.

I've also been doing this. In addition to the free samples online, I make instrumentals in a DAW (LMMS for me), and export the instrumental's elements separately as WAVs.
Then, I recreate and remix the instrumentals live using the VDJ sampler. Makes for a pretty versatile playback experience.
One problem I run into is that VDJ seems to stutter when switching quickly through sample banks, so I usually try to work within only one bank.

Yesterday I went to buy an AKAI APC mini, as suggested by beatbreaker, I am amazed of how sweet this unit works together with VDJ8.
I will now re-map some of the functions applied to my HC4500 and let the APC take care of the sampler and perhaps also some of the commonly used FX.
Thumbs up!!

@MrJackson , glad you like it. It really is a great little controller and once you get it all mapped to your liking it'll be a main stay to your setup.

hmm,Future music publications produced samples are so,so.I've got a huge collection from the 90's in storage, but using a sampler vst in vdj and actually sequencing within vdj is much better...

This is clever stuff. I've just downloaded a few sampler vst's. I'm still confused as to how we use vdj for sequencing?
There is no end to the possiblities offered by vst's, and vdj scripts.
Comments are needed from the great, and good.
Are these any good?
TX16Wx Software Sampler 2.4.1a Setup (Win32).msi
shortcircuit2-0_5_1.exe

hmm,not sure about the yamaha tx16wx sampler having a sequencer and therefore it vst emulation, but native instruments maschine does and with its dedicated controller which works side by side with your dj controller its simple.its got full transport and 12 pads.
