Topic: Recommed good headphones

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone can recommend a good set of headphones. I have tried some and they have not worked out for me. Either the sounds quality sucked or they were made cheap and broke. I am looking for decent sound, very durable, that can fold and no more than $150 USD. I will use them for the club and mobile gigs.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Dj VooDoo

I have been using a pair of American Audio HP 550's (I think that's the same model) for about 5 years. The only "issue" I've had with them is the ink has worn out and I can't verify the model number. I do know they are the same price as what I paid and the model sounds right.

The have been fairly accurate. Not studio quality, but defiantly good enough to DJ with. The signal response has been good enough to overcome 120+DB stage volume while plugged into a Mixtrack Pro or a Pioneer DJM-600. They are not noise canceling. But, for passive blocking, they do fairly well.

Thy are very good budget headphones that have stood up to 5 years of mobile work, backpack stuffing, and outdoors at freezing temps (very uncomfortable gig).

30 years of DJing. Clubs, weddings, radio, podcasting. These are the best headphones I've ever used. Hands down. Nothing else even comes close.... http://v-moda.com/over-ear

I started out in the biz in the mid-70's as a radio DJ. The station issued me the Koss Pro4AA. It was old and heavily abused so I purchased my own. That set eventually was beaten to death by my kids, and I got my second set in the early-90's, having since moved on to mobile DJ work. They are studio headphones. Even have the silver stud for mounting a microphone.
While not intended for mobile DJ's for sure, they are my all time favorite and I've been using the same set on all gigs for the past 25 years. Virtually indestructible with a real cool "retro" look. I like them because they do a heck of a job filtering out the noise from my own speakers (often on sticks a few feet from my head) so I can concentrate on cuing up without having to blast my headphone gain to the max when the speakers are pumping out a loud mix.
Modern technology gives us noise cancelling abilities, but this dinosaur did it with brute strength and no added electronics.
And, yeah, call me sappy-- I like the feeling of tradition -- this many years and still using the same phones.
One last thing-- they sound awesome. :)

its not for all Headforms the perfect Headphone.

Before this i have a Ortofon O2 / DJ Headphone,

Old Tom, I'm gonna give those oldschool Koss Pro4AA's a shot. I had never heard of them before your post and seem to fit the bill for a good noise isolating studio monitor headphone. That huge steel retro look rocks! I just hope they stay on my head and off the decks. Though not my thread, thanks for the suggestion! If I hate them I know my old man will love'em! ;)

I’ve recently spent a lot of time considering what makes the best DJ headphones as some opportunities for me to play out have dovetailed with some work I’m doing developing a crowd-sourced platform that identifies the best headphones for each particular use. It’s still a work-in-progress, but I’d thought I’d share what I have so far in terms of the best headphones for DJ.

I basically identified the attributes that work best for DJs, and the site ranks the results based on how well each attribute was reviewed by other sources. As I say, it’s still early days, but I’d be curious to see what other DJs in this forum think of the info.

A lot of plastic, but it sounds very good for his price: audio technica m50x. I now use beats pro, sounds good, certainly too expensive, but build as a tank.
