Hey guys, friend of mine had a Denon HD4500 controller and just got a pair of Serato SL2 boxes. He would like to purchase VDJ8 Pro and would like to know if it will work with the SL boxes and the denon? If it will not work with the SL boxes then is it guaranteed to work with the controller please?

Hi,
Denon HC 4500 is natively supported by V8 so i guess that is the unit you meant ...
SL2 i doubt ...
Here a overview from all V8 supported controllers :

Well, the SL2 was working with version 7, so I guess version 8 will recognize it too.
But in doubt:

Just test it. The FREE Version is a Pro Version for 10 minutes everytime you start the software.
Enough time to test if the soundcard will work :)

Which "free" version? I had thought only VDJ 7 had a free "Home" edition, does version 8 have a free home edition too?

If you don't have a purchased license then VDJ 8 is the free version. Once you purchase a license, VDJ 8 becomes the version you paid for when you log in.

Wait, I am missing something here, the version 8 which is available for download, that is a free "full functioning" version? If yes then what's the difference between that and the Pro8?

Alright, if I understand everything now, the virtual DJ 8 here on the Downloads page: http://www.virtualdj.com/download/index.html
is free but will not work with any controller? For that he will need at least the LE, is this correct please? Also, if he should purchase the VDJ8 Pro then he will be able to use that with the SL2 boxes and his Denon HD4500, is this also correct? I need to be 100% sure before I advise him to buy anything.

If he's working professionally then he'll need either a full Infinity license or a monthly subscription license to use VDJ 8 with the Denon and Serato kit.
The "Controller" licenses are not for pro use, and LE only ships with hardware - you can't buy it.

Just spoke to him he said he has no problem at all buying the Pro version for $299, he just wants to be sure everything works so I can tell him to try everything out with the Free version on the downloads page and if all works well then he can purchase the Pro for $299, is this right? If yes, if he should need any troubleshooting help, since he will be dealing with 3 separate things here [serato boxes, denon controller and VDJ software], where will he need to go for help?

Free version=no controller. LE version=only works with the controller it comes with. Pro version=works with any and all supported controllers, including the one you mentioned.

Right here will work just fine. :-)
He can create an account here, which will show Home user until he makes the purchase, then he'll show as a fully licensed user.
Purchasing the full 8 license also permits download & use of VDJ 7 should there be any issues with 8 (as it's still relatively new compared to the mature 7).

Ok thanks, most likely I myself may have to troubleshoot for him, get back to you guys.

Also, to be clear, the free version does allow you to try with your controller for 10 minutes, so you can check everything is working before buying.
