i am having a strange issue , it does not affect overall performance of vdj ( it is stellar !) but would like to know what is causing it
notice that it is happening only on my laptop and not on my desktop
so here it is.
i am using vdj 8 ( one version before the latest public)
laptop specs :
i3 , 6 gb ram,intel hd & nvidia gt (something ) with 2 gb ram,audio optimised,and music is on a external hd wd my book 1 tb usb3
and playing with ddj sx ( does this matter ?)
so while i am scrolling through my music ( down or up) , i get a weird refreshing of the file list ( while i am scrolling down or up )
it like waits for 0.5 seconds and then shows the rest of the files
it doesnt happen always but sometimes ( it never happened in vdj 7.4.1 with the same setup)
i have noticed that the number of files in a folder is not relevant ( i dont have folders with more than 200-250 files)
most of them have from 50-200 files in them
also when this "refresh" happens it also affects the folder structure on the folder side of the browser.
it like (while i am still scrolling down ) shows the half files and the other half of the screen is blank and then after a small ( 0.5 sec) shows the rest
it is like it is " searching" for the files
like i said it is not affecting performance -which is superb and without any problems- but i would like to know why
i have tried changing the skin fps to 40-50-60 but no luck
cpu while using vdj ( playing :5-12 %-analysing :35-50 %)
could it be skin related ? i havent tried using the default skin , but i am using the dennyo skin.
could it be external hd related ?
and yes before asking , i have set the usb controller hosts to never sleep or shut down power ( all of them)
off course i do have the mouse ( wirelles) falling asleep every 1 minute ( how do i change this ?)
another question : how can i activate the "good graphics card -the one with the 2 gb ? is it done automatic when it is needed ?
if not needed it uses the embeded hd graphics ?

It appears you are analysing files. That will slow down the browsing.
Have you let VDJ analys your whole library?
Are you browsing you drive and folders, or VDJ's virtual folders and such?

no,at the time this happens NO analysing of files is done.
it has been all done before
its just browsing the files of a folder on the external drive
the drive is a wd my book usb 3 1 tb and it is on a usb 3 port of the laptop
i repeat : same setup on vdj 7.4.1 and there it is ok
i will try another skin to see if it is happening there too

If you browsing through the physical folders on the drive, then there will be a delay as it reads from the drive. If you are using virtual folders, playlists, or filter folder, there shouldn't be.

Even if you have set the USB host controller to never disable its connected devices, the External Hard Drive may "sleep", if not used for several minutes. So, a delay when you browse through folders is expected i guess.
But in case the HD "sleeps" once it starts spinning, there shouldnt be an issue on displaying the data. Once this "freeze/delay" happens, and comes back to normal, it works well after that if you select another folder ?
To force the Nvidia card to engage instead of the Intel HD, i believe there should be an option if you right-click the VirtualDJ icon.
To see if its skin related (which i doubt), all you have to do is to use the default skin and see if it happens with that as well.

so could it be the controller somehow ?

also on my pc where all hard drives are internal it does not happen even with the sx plugged in
so is it the external hd which is usb 3 on a usb 3 port , or the controller somehow affecting the software
