How about it Scot, a couple of open source heavily commented plugin examples?
There are plenty of web tuts to do the lame coding stuff like calculators and that but after doing those basics you're still stuck trying to apply it to something else.
I've found I rather learn the basics then work with others code to reinforce the basics, then when you move on to something meaningful at least you're asking (hopefully) partially intelligent questions when stuck.
