Topic: Mapping keyboard to a custom dial

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Not sure about this, not needed yet I'm just experimenting but I can't map keyboard to a custom dial

I've tried all these with difference simple scripts on the button
custom_button 5 0
custom_button 5 1
custom_button 5 on
custom_button 5 +20%

It might just be how it is of keyboards but then I wonder can you map HW to a custom dial (which I can't test)

Question stands and it's probably a thing only techs could answer.

Probably not implemented.

And really cant find a reason why someone would want something like this. I have repeated several times in forums, that personally i find the custom_buttons useful to show to a skin things that are not implemented. So if for a reason, e.g. the 4 Decks skin has no Key knob, you can assign the Custom button as key and then use keyboard shortcuts to adjust the Key. You dont have to control the custom button itself.. just the assigned action.

Unless i miss something here, and you have a valid point to want something like that.

Many thanks for the reply,
so it isn't in, ok,, so now I know BUT... (please give an opinion)

one question remains can you HW map to a custom slider?

The thing is with the custom dials it is quick (with a right click) to switch between many scripts on one slider, maybe it wasn't implemented because it's tricky, but imagine how powerful it would be if you could 'custom_button 5 preset +1/-1/"yourslidername" ' from a controller button(or 2) and then have a HW slider (or 3) that can really FSU.
(FSU a VST acronym for F**k S**t up)

Do you get what I mean? It might be a V8.1 thing And you'll probably have to have a spoon feeding video to explain it
And yes you can script this like already but the idea of custom buttons is accessibility, I think you should expand on that

This is pushing really technical stuff but VDJ is the most technical software.
I promise no further questions/comments unless you ask, but a reply, if you understand, or don't, would be nice.
