Topic: My biggest complaint about 8 - Page: 1

I've been playing with version 8 since it's release , decided this weekend was the time to use it full time at my gigs. No problems, everything worked as it should have. But I do have one thing that really bothered me. Song preview, Having to open that extra tab to preview a song is bothersome. I don't want to leave it open all the time because I have a 13" screen and it takes up valuable space. Is there some way that the skin can be modified to add the preview player next to the search bar. There is plenty of empty space there and it just seems to make sense. (At least to me) to put it there...

I don't use preview at all so it's perfect where it is for me.
 
You could switch to another skin if you like - the Controller by Denny skin offers a preview player at the bottom. So this is only skin related. I think there will be many changed and modified in the next time.

My biggest gripe about 8 is the manual BEATAP button not working properly like the previous versions!!
 
I mapped a button that I don't use on my controller to preview or you can map a keyboard button. That way you dont need to open a new window just highlight the song and press the button and it will start playing in your headphones. I did the samething for Sandbox.

There have been a lot of changes in 8, new technology added, and some older technology, upgraded or eliminated. We should not expect things to work, just like 7, but better. Everyone will not see it, in the beginning, and it will take time to adjust. Humans do not like change, but we embrace it. When you say it doesn't work properly, what do you mean by that? It seems to work as intended for me. You only need to tap 4 times, and it will give you the bpm. What is it doing for you?
 
The TAP BPM button does not work at all with other genre of music like it used to work in the previous versions! Tapping in 4 times does not align the BPM grid with the down beat like it used to be in all previous versions! I play a great deal of caribean music and hip-Hop. VTDJ8 has not yet enable me to manually tap the beat to accurately align the beat with the wave form of the beat like previous versions!
 
Ok, now I understand what you are talking about, sort of. I don't do the whole beat grid thing, so am not the best person to help you. I play all types of music, and just tried to set the beat grid to the down beat. If you line up the down beat, and tap the tab once, doesn't the beat grid line up? If that doesn't help, someone else will help you, now that we know what your issue is.

yea it doesnt work like its stated to work...you might get the bpm with beattap but to align the downbeat you have to pause the track, the line up the downbeat then tap once.
 
How did it work in 7?
 
obviously,this worked in v7.but give it some time guys.they will fix it....(now there AMAHM...doesnt that feel better,getting a little help?...;)

This is a nice "PC" reply but ..... we all know as far as effects and customizing VDJ set the bar but is playing catch up on everythingelse. The bpm and cbg editors have be present in other dvs systems for a while. But for the editors to be so poorly implemented was a real let down. Not enough for me to switch but still a let down. I have used everyoother software and it seems they all realize the best way to implement the bpm and cbg editor, so it will keep the workflow as simple as possible, but VDJ cjose to give it a d.a.w. feel and work workflow which be a great offline mode, but in the mix its like hiccups. what about a dj like me that sets his environment up in a way the only reason i touch my laptop is to search because everything is mapped to my vci400 and voxoaM70. I also wonder if anybody noticed this in beta-testing how could it even be missed. It was the first thing i noticed. Because i use loops and bpm dependent effects. So for no reason should you have to stop the music to edit anything. you have multiple waveforms in your face act all times some of this could be embedd in the songposition like everybody else seem to understand to be the best way to deal with BPM and cbg problems. These are the minor things that keep the bedroom amateur label on virtualDJ.
 
and that folks, is why i refuse to use 8 for anything until its fixed

No, while the track is playing, tap 4 times starting at the downbeat, and it will move the downbeat.
 
MY only problem with virtual 8 is that some of the videos effects does not work also the program freezer from time to time. that any one know how to fix it.

are you quoting the munual or are you tapping?

Hardly ever works properly just like he said in the other thread. This I can confirm.

VDJ me looking stupid last week as I was teaching some students how to set the downbeat while the track was playing and every time it wouldn't work. Almost every time I had to pause the track and then tap the button.

The old system worked flawlessly........
