Reason and Abelton live for mashups also used Cubase, FL and Protools in the past.

Nice article... I have used or still use FL and used MAX/MSP a lot while doing my masters... Never used MAX/MSP before didn't even know what it was until I started taking classes and is a pretty epic program. My professor at the time did a lot of visuals for big name DJs like Ferry Corsten and Armin Van Buuren when they played in NYC and I would go under his guestlist, it was pretty nice the things he would do with MAX/MSP even though he used more the Jitter portion for the visuals.

Wasted many an evening happily noodling around with Rebirth a few years ago. Used to use Acid (formerly by Sonic Foundry, then bought out by Sony) for producing my own tracks and cheeky mashups. I remember working with loops and samples in 1998, and having to be very sparing with sample lengths, as it didn't take much to max out the 64MB RAM on my Pentium II at the time!
