Topic: Music File Level

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I use MP3gain to level all my Audio files, If anyone knows this program i have a question. I usually leave it at -89 db which works well and i have virtual dj master setting in the registry set at - 5db so it only autogains to -95db. But im just hearing about unity gain and wondering for the best sound should these settings be at the same level respectively. mp3gain=-89db and virtual dj set at (-1.1) which would be -89db for the autogain.

Excellent question... following to see what the answer is.

I just set mp3gain at 94db and totally disable VDJ auto gain. This has worked perfect for me for a long time now.

What is wrong with VDJ auto gain.It works fine and you don`t have to worry about extra software.

I just test a few tracks that came from vinyl and it jumped around (volume wise) more than i like...i know everybody gonna say twist the knob, i know, but hell its software...

not necessarily, its autogain feature doesnt prevent clipping, the limiter is useless. So i use mp3gain(i actually use .m4a(audio) and .mp4(video) but it works for them also) to bring all files to right under clipping. I also use breakawayDJ..And i garauntee youyou will be amazed at my sound....

Mp3gain just works so much better than the VDJ built in gain.
