Is it possible to create a playlist and have all the cues for exiting one song and beginning the next already setup in the playlist? The idea is when you come to mix, you have already done the hard work previously
Is it also possible to intermittently play from deck 1 whilst playing deck 2?
Thanks
Jason

Yes, while you're playing on automix on deck 1 you can of course use the other decks to play someting else.
And saving cues or mixpoints for playlists should also be possible, since every information is stored in the database to its corresponding song and not playlist related.

hmmm. Well depending on the playlist, I might want different start points of a given song, so was really looking at a way to save the cues to the songs that was specific to the playlist.

Automix?

See "editing automix mix points" in the manual.

Its still not quite what i want. I want to do the actual mixing not automated, I just want the next record to be loaded up and cue'd from a pre determine position so I can then mix it in. Or at least have some kind of marker on the waveform trace that I can then locate with the mouse

You could always make different copies of your songs and name them something different. That way VDJ would see them as different tunes and you could set different cue points etc.

I don't really like the idea of duplicating songs. It appears then that what i was after is not possible.
Thanks

Well then you don't need to use a playlist. Just load the tracks yourself into each deck.
You can set cue points in advance to each track, and they're saved. When you load that track the next time, your cue points will still be there. Up to 99 cue points per track, so no shortage. You can even name them.

Oh thats good.
So if I have 10 songs in my playlist and before I start mixing I want to spend time working out the best part of each song to mix into, I can preset each of the 10 songs and load cue points in advance to each one. So when I come to mix, most of the hard work is done?

Forget playlists. That area on the right of the browser is primarily for use with automixing.
If you're doing the mixing yourself then you don't need to use that area.
Yes, if you go through each of your songs, you can set (and name) cue points for each, and they'll stay there. They're saved in the VDJ database. Then when you next want to play that song, the cues will load with the song.
Remember, if you're going to put in the work of assigning lots of cue points, make sure you regularly back up your database file.

OK that sounds what I want.
I still like the idea of playlist so I can just load the next song rather than look thru and find it, I often have several mixes of the same song and dont want to be trying to identify the correct mix on the fly as it were.

You could put your songs in a virtual folder (a red one) in the file/folder panel on the left of the browser.
You could also create a playlist (on the right hand side) and save it, which will make it appear under the playlist area in the file/folder panel. If you click it, the listed songs will be displayed in the main browser area.

What skin are you using?
The default VDJ skin only has three hot cue buttons. If you regularly want to add more than three cue points to tracks, then there are other skins with more cue buttons.
Another way to speed up the process of adding cue points is to use a controller and assign the task of adding the cues to buttons.
So for example, if you had a controller with ten buttons, you could script each button to set a specific cue point number and give it a name (start, verse1, chorus, break and so on). Then for each track, you'd just have to find the location and press the button.

I m using the American audia 10MXR skin. It does have a few MIDI buttons on but I've already linked them to the pitch control. I will check out the other skins, can you recommend one with many cue's (I only have 2 decks)
Thanks for the info.

Is it possible to somehow get a list for each song (or even just for the song selected) all the cue points and their location in time. I only see a visual representation on the skin. I want to be able to label my cue points begin mix here, start next mix, piano, beats etc.
I also see that in the song window at the bottom, there is the possibility to add fields names "Field 1" & "Field 2". Can I assign 2 of my cue points to these fields?
Thanks
Jason

VirtualDj supports up to 99 cue-points per track.
Most skins will show you 3 or 4 cue-points per track.
Some recent skins may show you 8 cue-points as they are designed for units with PADS.
If you need to able to see more than 8 cue-points then I guess that you'll have to either create/modify a skin or open the database XML file where they are listed / stored per track.
The "Field1" and "Field2" are 2 custom text fields inside VirtualDj's database for the users to store any text info they wish about this track...
They can't hold cue-points. However they can hold text like "Start from Cue2"

Are there any pointers to modifying a skin you could point me to. This sounds like the best idea.
Thanks
