I have Virtual DJ PRO but everytime I load a m4a music file it comes up with an error. I was under the impression the PRO version should play m4a files. Do I have to convert them all? Any help appreciated.

Try this:
If VDJ is still unable to play the audio, i won't work at all.
Becaus m4a is a DRM format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management) of Apple.
