Hello,
I use a pair of Stanton SCS.1D controllers now with VDJ Pro (licensed user), among other things (VMS4.1, Versadeck). I did a bit of searching for a hang out for people using the SCS.1D controllers, but there seems to be none. Hence, I have just created one.
It's a Facebook group:
Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/583569668381041/
There is not much there yet, as I just barely created it. I'd like to discuss how we've all mapped our controllers, if anyone has done any mods, pics of setups.... just all things related to these controllers. I really like mine, and they work really really well with VDJ. That said, you have to have firewire, but I've got that covered. You also need to hunt around to find a good deal, but also be watchful of shade sellers, or you can wind up with a dude.
Anyway, for those that have, please go click and join the page. I'd love to see your setups, discuss my own plans, etc.... :)

We d really love to hear how you have covered the lack of Firewire connection of a laptop. As far as i am aware of, if your laptop has no firewire port or an available PCMCIA slot, then there is no way to get the Firewire protocol to work. USB to Firewire adapters dont do the job.
Please post here any useful information about those units. Not everybody uses FB.
Thanks

Hi,
These are really great controllers. The most unique feature of them is the motorised pitch fader. No other controler have it (unfortunately)

Sadly, there is no work around. You have to have a firewire port, and preferably firewire with a TI chipset. And if you are running windows XP, you will probably have to do a registry edit to make the port operate at the right speed, and if you are running windows 7, you will need to revert it to running the "Legacy driver", which is oddly much faster than their current driver. It would seem that Microsoft kinda hates Firewire, and I almost have to think they have supported it in such a way, that people's experience will be bad out of the box on a PC, unless they know the work arounds...hence, they will think firewire is crap, and go looking for USB products... when in reality MS support for firewire is crap. If you do the needed registry edit for WinXP or switch to Legacy for Windows 7, your firewire port will work just fine.
Anyway, again, there is no work around. All the USB to Firewire adapters are a hoax.. they are meant for products that use the firewire mini connector, but are actually using the USB protocol... apparently there are a few cameras out there that are doing this for I don't know what reason. Hence, if you use that cable adapter to connect from a REAL USB port, to a REAL FIREWIRE port, it will not work, and you will probably break stuff.
I purchased a pair of Dell Lattitude laptops. One is an E5400, and the other is a E6500... loaded both with 4 GB of RAM, and both are using the Intel T9600 Core 2 Duo CPU, which has 6 MB of L2 cache, actually benches well with a lot of the i3 CPU's, and runs VDJ just fine. Both of these have a firewire port, as well as a PCMCIA slot. The E5400 and E6500 with a T9600 CPU can be had on Ebay for pretty cheap.
I think some of the newer Dell Lattitude series has PCMCIA slots as well, basically because they are a business machine, and they are considering that for a business machine, there may be more need for connectivity. I am not a fan of Dell computers that are meant for home, but I've found that their business level machines are actually quite good :)
I kind of wish Gibson (they purchased Stanton) would put a design team on making a new model, hopefully with USB. I suspect they may have to eliminate the scribble strips, because I think that is why they needed Firewire, because of the fuller, full-duplex communication. I have a feeling that won't happen though, sadly. Love the 10" platter and feel of this thing...

My advice to Stanton would be - stick a hard drive inside, a display on top, and turn it into a standalone player.
Think "pro version of the SCS.4DJ".

I was thinking of getting a pair of this controller, but it's a shame that can't be connected via usb, I watched videos where a stanton midi mixer is used to connect 2 controllers, anyone knows if the mixer has usb output?

It is only firewire.
One can dasy chain FW up to 6 units (to one port).
That is why these controllers are out of production.
FW is dead. :(

Hey, trying to keep this thread alive. I also own 2 SCS.1D, and like many others, I have issues with the LED displays not showing every pixel. I managed to get to the LEDs and man... Don't risk it if you're in the same situation. The LEDs are GLUED to their connectors, ribbon cables with paper ends... It's just not worth it. I managed to disconnect the 4 bottom LED displays, disconnected and reconnected them all without success. Playing with the ribbon cable gets me weird characters, so I don't think it's really dead pixels on the LEDs, but more a connection issue because of the ribbon cables which are twisted in 3 plies in factory. I'll get those to my tech to see if he can connect them properly, like solder the connectors instead of being glued.
Even if it costs me 100$ for the repair, I paid 40$ for the deck on eBay, and everything else if working mighty fine with VDJ. I can't believe users didn't pickup on this: for like 6 months there were dozens of them on eBay for under 100$, and the 1M was and still is about 40$. Go ahead with your $600 all-in-one controllers: I'll keep my System for sure!

And with no laptop they're just paper weights just like any other controllers no matter the cost, lmmfao!!
So you stick with those and ill stick to my cdjs/turntables, lol!!

I've got a pair of them, great concept terribly executed. Neither of my decks will play at a stable speed which renders them utterly useless.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I've always wanted a set including the mixer but I've also read about all the problems and that's always stopped me from grabbing them up.
But yeah great concept......

I have the mixer too. I'd actually use them too, if they would put out a stable signal, but at 0% both decks run at different speeds and neither speed is stable at all, we're talking fluctation of up to 5%!
I've tried every fix I can find, every lubrication trick, no change. Too unreliable IMHO.
I'm a bit of a motorwheel junkie if I'm honest, I've currently got v7s, 3700, 3900, NS7II and of course my 1210s...

sorry to hear that, I also own a pair of scs1d and the scs1m mixer, everything works great, except some missing lines, both decks run at same speeds (I check this very often) but when my 2nd deck arrived(11/2014) ,it was running a bit slower than the other deck (12/2012), but after a few scracth weeks it was fine. I also had issues with the 1st deck.
I have a friend who owns a ns7 and he says after some time not using the the unit, he has to let the unit on/rotating for like 30min before start mixing, or he will have dif speeds on decks. has I said I had speed issues on both decks but after some use they run fine, I remember this last summer,I been like 3 months without using the decks, again the speed issue, after a couple of hours mixing/juggling/scratching is all ok, I can clone 3 decks 2 scs1d and 1 virtual deck and they play in sync for 4 mins aprox before getting off sync.
I met a few scs1d users along the way and some have issues some dont, I simply love the 10" system, and those are a still one of the best turntable torque motors (4kg) in market. I wanted the denons but cant afford them...
I would like to know more about this...
