It's not about the brand, it's about the capabilities of the laptop!

What's your budget for a start? Will you be playing audio only, or video?

yes audio only.

I read a lot about Asus and Lenovo.

Obviously good specs. i5, 8gb ram, 1tb hdd.

but confused which one to get coz I don't want any crashes later.

There's no guarantee you will never experience a problem, I don't care what brand it is.

Spin the wheel with PC or buy a Mac. Best of both worlds is a Mac with Windows.

Lenovo might be a better choice over Asus, personally I like my MSI.
Regardless if you think your'e going to do video I would still get a machine with NVIDIA graphics, just in case.

Let a few more opinions roll in and don't be afraid to ask questions before you buy.

Thanks DJECoast.

waiting for more opinions and recommendations.

Hi,
I realise this is an old thread but it finished up asking for more so I would;
(a) pleanty of usb slots, one or two could fail down the line, and you may want more than an all in 1 controller some day, or even extra memory sticks, hard drives, etc.
(b) dedicated graphics (not shared/on board/integrated),
(c) backlit keypad - some booths I have dealt with actually dont get lit up at all,
(d) vga/dvi/hdmi connectors suitable for your screens and monitors so you dont need to mess around with converters further down the line.
(e) a cd/dvd drive! - its not unheard of a customer expecting you to play their cd for party or first dance, etc! and there do seem to be a growing number of laptops without them.
For everything else wouldn't you be better off holding out for VDJ 8 release and then seeing what you actually need? Eg raw processor speed or more cores? Etc etc
Other than that im sure the recommended specs can be found in a document on these forums.

If you said that 2 years ago he would still be waiting and might for all that we know need to wait a long time from now

You still have not given a budget yet. So, get as much RAM as you can afford. I would get a NVidia card with as much dedicated memory, that you could afford. I personally do not accept CDs from clients, but you need a DVD drive. Make sure you know what the return policy is, in case you have to return it. In other words, if you have a 30 day return policy, make sure you are testing it for 29 days. Do not let it sit around, and then you found out that you don't like it. Know what the restocking fee is. Read some reviews about three of the machines, you are considering. I don't use laptops, but was thinking about an ASUS, because a lot of my friends here use them. However, I just read my Consumers Report, and ASUS came in last for reliability. Now that only gave me pause, because it only takes into account the number of people that replied to the survey, and who knows how many models were included. I never reply to those surveys. As I said, I was just thinking about a laptop. I love my 23 inch screen. Oh, USB 3 is a must, with one USB 2 port. It will be hard to find one with all the second outputs, DVI, VGA, HDMI, and Display port. I would settle for HDMI, VGA and mini Display Port. DVI seems to have played out on laptops. It really is not a lot to think about. How much do you have to spend, and what do you want? I always say, "get what you want, not what you can afford". You will end up with it anyway, so get it now.

Everytime I see a topic like this I keep saying the same thing.

Get a Mac and you'll never look back.

regardless what brand... if you are using your laptop professionally... get a next day onsite repair plan with it. Its a little extra but well worth.

He's already stated that he doesn't want a Mac.

Ha ha ha!

It's not just me who said, "get a Mac" although OP clearly mentioned he doesn't want a Mac.

Just trying to help with a very honest opinion based from personal experience.

Happy New Year!!!

i am working with Dell Latitude E6440 8GB i7-4600M 2.9 GHz 14.0 inch HD+(1600x900) Anti-Glare Win7 Pro
cost me 1500$ And I am very pleased.
