and whats with itunes? i tried to play some tracks and it had to import/copy the tracks from my music hdd first, no direct play, is this normal? and why is it doing that? if it imports tracks from the hdd, does that mean its gonna fill up my OS hdd with duplicate tracks? or is it just importing them to the library?
thanks, john. (the mac noob)

VDJ does show iTunes playlist as a tree element, at the folder list.
If you go to browser settings, in VDJ config, you can make this show, if it doesnt already.
But the songs do need to be analyzed in VDJ, for gain, bpm etc.. .

yeah that much i know, itunes was copying all of my tracks from my 1tb hdd onto my OS hdd whilst adding them to the library, turns out theres an option in preferences to stop it doing so.
now i just gotta wait a day or two for my music database to be bilt on this mac and then i can ad it to my itunes library.
should be done by next week lol

next week ... lol
Yeah, there is a feature where it copies all the songs to its own location (itunes), when adding to library. I hate that feature, so i have turned it off.. .

yeah thats what my issue was, apple must think that no one has more than a hand full of tracks in their collection. how im supposed to fit 1tb ont 360gb is beyond me lol.
yeah next week should do it, it took about 4-5 days to add my music to the vdj database last time i did it lol
and scanning for bpms.... man that took forever lol, no idea how long its gonna take to add them all to my itunes library either, and then theres fixing the id3 tags with rinse.... itll take a while, but itll all be worth it in the long run

yeah, with 1tb collection patience might be required ;) hehe
Adding to iTunes without 'copy to itunes location' might be kinda fast .. I think it does read the ID tags (takes a sec), so might not be lightning fast, but still .. not too bad..
For VDJ,
Analyzing all a whole collection for bpm, volume, beat markers etc.. that will take a while ;)
But not entirely sure why you are making a new collection of that size, did you not use VDJ with this harddrive before?
If you did use this external drive before, and its only a new pc, VDJ database is already at root of the old of the external drive, and should be pretty much just same as itunes... 'Adding/favorite' folders back inside vdj, and the info is 'instantly' there ;)

You can also convert your old DB by changing from the PC file location to the Mac one on a text editor.
Will save you a lot of time.
