My Fellow Djs

i have a question has anyone implemented solid state hard drives in their gear. what i would like to know if solid state hard drives work better for access and playing music than a mechanical one. You see i have an old 250gig 7200 rpm which im looking to upgrade, is it worth it? If so which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance

There was a thread on this a few months back. You are not going to notice a difference accessing tracks. It is the difference between 5ms and 15 ms, so way less than a blink. You will see faster boot and larger tasks run better. Difference is larger if your computer support SATA 3. Plus no need and actually bad to defrag them often. So less maint to worry about.

Plus they are not sensitive to magnets and way less sensitive to impacts. That is why I did it. Crucial makes a good one.

Last, early Windows 7 discs did not come with SSD drivers. SP1 and later I think do. Because of this, my MBR was put on my second (storage) drive. Be aware, that can be an issue when you go and change that other drive. I used it for over a year with no issues, I didn't even know that happened. But it would not boot after changing that second drive, which a friend helpped me figure out over a year after the format. An MBR rebuild to th SSD fixed it, but a friend did it for me so I have no idea how to do it.

I use for OS, and programs. Boots crazy fast. A 250g drive, is not that big, if you are thinking about putting your media on it.

my plan is to copy all my music to the new solid state and keep the mechanical one for backup just incase. i want to take it for a test drive and see what happens.

i do plan to get a bigger one. i just wanted your thoughts if your using it with your gear in venus and stuff

A bigger one? Do you know how much these drives cost? Look here. Well, maybe you do know, and can afford them. I think faster, and larger RAM would be a better option.

RAM memory for Win 7/8 32bit is max 4GB
for 64bit is 8 GB sufficient.
Tell me what application wants more RAM memory? ( yes ..server)
