Actually their all pretty happy about it and many have known it was coming. It only makes sense to have one program......

Wonder if NI is gonna follow suit after the BPM show

What do you mean, they also only have one program. It's the hardware that makes the difference. Without a traktor box or certified mixer you can't use timecodes.

Right but they have Traktor Pro, Scratch, Duo, LE and so on. I'm curious if they are going to retire any selections and just focus on one or two titles. Not that it matters to me since I dont use Traktor anymore, or Serato either. VDJ works great for me. :)

People knew about it 2 years ago. Actually I knew from a good source.

It's all the same program some just have different features left out, kinda like VDJ LE, VDJ BROADCAST, VDJ PRO BASIC, VDJ PRO FULL.......

"All the pain, suffering and crap that Serato and their users have endured over the last few years has led to this moment in time."
That statement came from that article. This can't be true. I don't go to their forum, because so many Serato lovers are here. From the comments on this forum, I thought Serato was perfect, and that all their users were happy. All I heard was how great Serato was. So who's telling the truth? Is this a free upgrade?
As far as all these people saying they knew it was coming, Please.

I found out back in the 2011 DJ Expo by a Very good Controller designer.

but license cue from vdj. Like SDJ trying their Hand at VDJ...none of those controllers are built the way i want them. but it look nice

They are always working on new controllers, no one knew that SSL was going to be retired, or it would have been blood on the floor. Hey, I'm not mad at them. You have never heard a bad word out of my mouth towards Serato, because I don't care. I just found that statement a little shocking, because of all the Serato lovers, on this forum. They made it seem that everything was all good in the land of milk and honey.

I don't know if they planned on Retiring Scratch live but, There plans were to Have all three (Scratch Live, Itch & DJ Intro) into one Software to do everything. Me, Im surprised to hear about Serato DJ to control everything. All of people will be surprised aswell.

So what is this guy talking about "All the pain, suffering and crap that Serato and their users have endured over the last few years has led to this moment in time"?

Hop on over and find out......

Come on, the Serato lovers have had no problem singing the praises of the software on this forum, why can't they step up and tell me what the pain is about?

Well since you wanna be lazy and not go check it out for yourself, Ill tell you what Ive seen.
Well they lost or are loosing Itch and most of the Itch controllers had to wait about a year to be ported over to Serato DJ, some are still waiting and some even got dropped.
Then there was the problem with Mix Emergency not working with SSL anymore and that had everyone going crazy, I can see why though. M.E. is a badass video plugin with dope effects and some really nice features that Id love to see in VDJ.
Those are really the only things I can think of. I mean SSL and SDJ still have bugs from years ago that probably caused people some problems so that could be another.
Ive never had any problems other then I couldnt remap my controller and I let them know thats just weak and how every other program will let you do it.
And then theres Seratos own video plugin which hasnt seen an update in about a year after they promised to roll updates out more often but that doesnt effect to many as most use M.E. over it anyways. Still could be a problem for those that own a Mac though.
Oh and now the SL1 and 57 mixer will no longer be supported hardware in the new SDJ thats coming out, again no big deal to me as I dont own either one but could see how that could be a problem for some.

Lover? No
User? Occasionally
Speaking of the Serato DJ SW it was really unstable in the first versions, and a little limited when it came to FX
And as far as I know there are still problems with stability (I haven't experienced it myself for a while), and it can't curently handle big song collections on regular laptops, since a lot of stuff gets loaded into RAM
I'm sure they are working on fixing it all of it as we speak :)
Best regards

What I like about Serato, is their sense of commitment to the user is no longer a mystery SDJ release 1.5 comes out in October, is simply synonymous with reliability, responsibility and respect for the user ...

I recently started to play around a little with Serato DJ after I bought a DDJ SX.
But even before opening the software the first time I got some problems.
After installing and about to start the programm ( v1.3) my virus scanner poped up with a alert saying sth. like "A programm has been blocked - seratodj.exe - potentially unwanted programm. level: high!"
'Thats something', I thought. After a quick research I found a statement of the serato support team saying that all their software is tested and that there is no malware code in their programm even if this could happen with some virus scanners.
Still with a unpleasent feeling gave the programm access and unblocked it.
After SDJ started I got the next error message. "A .dll file could not be found"... Checked it on local path. File is there.
Closed SDJ, restared it, error... Even after un- and reinstalling I still got the error message.
At this point I already was fed up with SDJ. But I went over to their forum. Apparentely a whole bunch of people got this message too with the new 1.3 version.
Turns out it happens for most people with a AMD CPU (they don't support AMD) but there where also people with a Intel quadcore getting this error.
Reading through their forum there are a lot of threads "crashing when turning controller on", "crashing after activating fx", "database too big?", "crashing while loading song" and so on.
After that reading I had the exact same thinking: I thought serato was that good because everybody was so crazy about it.
Apparently not. They have a lot of, what I call, teething problems. In my oppinion it isn't half that good people were saying.

The day that Serato Scratch Live comes out with a Sync button/feature will be the day I laugh my butt off at all the SL users who think they are so much better than VDJ users strictly because of that reason.
Today is that day ;)
Serato SSL is retired, no longer being developed.
And all future goes into Serato DJ that is by far a midi controller software with sync, auto bpm and other things the Serato users bashed VDJ for, and the "mistaken elitish I'm better djs" loved to use as means to try make themselves be more "real dj" ;)
In the end of course Serato did this. A decade ago it was impressive to have 2 "vinyls" spin on the PC screen.
Thats not the case anymore, all djs with a little self-esteem dont use that "purist" argument to cover up they are a digital dj anymore.
Digital dj is now well established and accepted, as well as using the features it offers....
Besides I can teach my mama to match pitch manually in an hour. Matching pitch was never the essence and temple of djing.
Djing is about reading the crowd, having the right tunes, mixing on the right downbeat, avoid vocal clashes, blend in harmony, being able to do creative remixing etc. Matching pitch is just a basic skill.
Oh well.. . ;)
