Topic: Average lifespan of a laptop? - Page: 2

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I know this thread is a few months old.

There are so many factors that could cause a laptop failure or longevity of a laptop

Some brands have more reliable products than others.

For mobile dj gigging I have a back up laptop. But the main laptop never sees gets to really see the light of day as far as the internet goes for various obvious reasons. Then the back up laptop I use for daily purposes web browsing downloading etc..

I purchase at least one new laptop every year. I then personally max it out with the best goodies i can afford.
I use the Toshiba brand computers. They are just super durable and cheap considering what is bundled up with them when you buy one. (and every laptop i have ever owned is still running to this day (ten years of them). Depending on your set up. It might not hurt to pick up one of say toshiba's cheapo models. for around 300-400 bucks, it probably will do everything your 4 year old laptop can do and probably will have more memory, storage space the whole nine yards.

My Laptop Rig A. is kept for one year then retired to Laptop rig B.(back up)

Other factors like Smoke, climate stored etc. can cause certain moving parts to degrade, dropping it, spilling crap on it etc. are all sure fire ways to blow a laptop.

But then again electronics can fail for a long list or reasons, dirty power, power surge, abrupt power outage (usually not an issue with a laptop due to battery) etc..
