Topic: External Samplers and Virtual DJ

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Are there any external samplers that are compatible with Virtual DJ? I was looking at the Traktor Kontrol F1 but I don't want to use their program...basically something along that line. Any help is appreciated :)

The F1 is not a sampler.

It's just a USB MIDI controller i.e. a bunch of buttons that do nothing on their own, and only work when connected to the computer, to control whatever software you're using.

If you're not going to use Traktor then it's (IMO) pointless paying that much for some buttons. The Novation Launchpad is half the price and has way more buttons - plus it comes with the Launchpad version of Ableton Live.

There's also the new Behringer CMD controllers. The DC-1 or LC-1 are the closest to the F1 format, and also about half the price.

Stripping it right down to the basics, there's the Korg NanoPAD 2 - which still has enough buttons for VDJs sampler (12 slots).

Okay thanks for the heads up...I'm pretty new to that side of DJing so I appreciate the help

Basically what Im looking to do is take an existing track (funkymix for example), take the 32 beat intro, the hook or chorus and the 32 beat outro and make a new mp3 from that. A real quick banger...would you suggest any of those for this?

The sampler on vdj needs a lot of work. I've been waiting for the sampler to work properly since version 3.0.

I love vdj, and I hate to say this, but traktor is better for what you are looking to do.

Take a look at the Korg Kaossilator Pro., this is a stand alone system that you run through the extra channel of your mixer. So if you have a controller with no line inputs, this will not work as far as I know.

A Novation launch pad and Ableton going through Rewire on VDJ is another option. (I sometimes use this)

Traktor has more functionality but VDJs sampler is pretty good if you know how to use it which I think is most people's problem. It's all about the gridand script. Get familiar with those and you'll see the potential..........

Also if you are just looking for loops and EFX, maybe a Pioneer RMX 1000 will fit what you would need. If I recall correctly there is also a way to record samples on an SD card to play on that thing.

Audacity I would say would be the better bet. You can edit the entire track and then save it as an MP3. I started to use it to edit the mix's that I record on my Ipod from my Mixdeck and when you get the hang of it you can edit a lot of the track with effects and volume and stuff. Then you can load it up in the sampler in VDJ and use it that way if you need to.

But whats the learning curve like? Is it difficult to use?

It won't cost you anything (but your time) to find out!

There are plenty of videos on YouTube too.

ok,im going to post a video and find a way to load the link to the apc 40 . it has all the samples and 40 effects and all the dials and loops all set to the controller.. the only issue is that I can get stickers to stick to the buttons for lables. I will post a video on youtube later today.. its going to be called apc virtual dj effect mod
