Topic: Numark controller for a total newbie

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello everyone!

I am about to buy the first controller in my life, but since I am a huge novice in DJing its quite a question!

I've read a lot about Numark Mixtrack Pro and I am almost one step from buying it. But since there are also a Pro 2 version, I am a bit confused.
My question is: - being a total newbie, does mixtrack pro functionality will be enough for me? I never touched a DJ controlller, and I am planning to play reggae\dub, hip=hop(scratching in major).

So in this case, should spend some extra on Mixtrack Pro 2?
Is Pro 2 so much differ from Pro?

Thank you very much in advance.

I love my MTP - while it may not be the highest spec controller, and while it may be missing a few very essential things (gain, I'm looking at you), the bods on this forum have helped me map it to have it 'just so', and I keep finding new and exciting ways to manipulate sounds. For any missing features, there's a mapped button on my laptop for it instead.

I can't vouch for scratching, nor playing hip-hop, as I'm a house DJ, but for what I do with it, it suits me to the ground.

The Pro II came out just as mine arrived, and I suspect the II would be more useful for handling loops, samples and effects...

But Mixtrack Pro comes with VDJ.

Got you! How long do you using Pro? Are you planning to switch to Pro 2 ?

Bro, its no funny!

Then my bad. I thought all Numark Mixtracks came with different software now. In that case I would think the newest one would be better...

No plans to upgrade for a little while yet. I want to be able to wring every last drop of performance out of it first. I would suggest you go to a store, and perhaps have a play with as many controllers as you can - I didn't, and secretly wish I had. Just don't tell my MTP...
