Topic: Coffee House Open Mic Question

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

I currently host an open mic at a coffee house. This is sometimes mixed with karaoke. I am wondering how much I should be charging. I started out just trying to help the owner, but now it has grown into quite a large night. Between 20 and 40 people on the average attend.

Please help. I want to set up a contract with this person soon.

Thank you.

Price is effected by two things. The market, and what you think you're time is worth. After that, it's all negotiating. If I were you, I would have a friend call other DJs in the area and ask them how much they charge. But, for me to sit in my town and tell you how much you should charge, is silly. Good luck....

Obviously you have a good thing going, congrats on that. For a crowd of 20+ who are regulars and spending money I think $200 is ballpark for 4 hours. Location, your time, regional pricing and frequency of gigs can all be factors.

This is just a coffee house, no liquor license?
