the controller is native to VDJ you shouldn't need to install any extra mappings. try redownloading 7.4 and installing it. you might even try installing the LE version first before 7.4 pro. also try different USB ports on your computer. double check your power pack and turn everything on BEFORE starting VDJ. also double check your settings, make sure you have the correct audio settings enabled. sound card and the vms4 asio. i have the 4.1 so mine looks slightly different from this link http://www.virtualdj.com/wiki/VMS4%20/%20VMS4.1.html

"The included version of Virtual DJ includes a Firmware update utility. It is necessary to install this. To update your VMS4:
1. Please check your computer audio setting and ensure that the VMS4 is not set as a default playback, playback recording, or MIDI device. This will interfere with the update and software applications.
2. Click the start menu > All Programs > Virtual DJ > FIRMWARE Update.
3. Select the VMS4 or USB Audio Device (Windows XP). Load the update file by clicking browse and going to the file location."
found this in the .pdf off their website, page 21 http://www.adjaudio.com/pdffiles/vms4.pdf
the rest of the info including the LE version with the utility can be found at http://www.adjaudio.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ItemNumber=1447
good luck

I'm not ready to divorce the VMS4 yet LOL

Make sure no VMS4 files are present in both MyDocuments\VirtualDJ\Mappers and MyDocments\VirtualDJ\Devices folders.
Launch VirtualDJ and see if the VMS4 is detected in CONFIG-->Mappers tab.
If the VMS4 is not there, or you see Simple Midi wrapper then the VMS4 is not detected as Midi properly.
In this case, disabling any Logiteck hardware, Wifi, Webcamera from Device Manager might help. Try also a USB 2.0 port, in case your VMS4 is plugged to a 3.0 USB port (blue one) or use a USB 2.0 Hub.
If all the above fail, re-install Windows. You will save more time than trying to figure out what happened.
