Have you looked at MSI brand pc's? The GE 60 exceeds the specs of what you listed and offers the NVIDIA 2TB video card for around $1000.
Posted Fri 22 Mar 13 @ 11:00 am
That sells for almost £900 in the UK, which equates to $1371. Probably not "mid price" enough!
Steve, if I were you I'd avoid buying a PC with an AMD CPU. You're more likely to run into compatibility problems with both hardware and software.

Good luck

Depends what your are going to to whit it :)
As a dedicated laptop for VDJ 7, it is powerful enough. You should think of such a laptop is that it should be on a laptop stand to withstand the heat.
If you are able to add an additional £ 100-150 you can buy much better LapTop.
Posted Fri 22 Mar 13 @ 12:59 pm
Well 1.7GHz isn't that great (not much more than a netbook) but CPU isn't everything.
The PC system requirements for VDJ don't mention CPU speed at all, so it's not an easy call. If I were you I'd go for the fastest CPU anyway, just for the sake of longevity.

All I want it for is to run music & video which I do now with the laptop I have but would like to run more plug ins the scroll txt & screen logos stuff like that ... The laptop I have now seem to struggle with if I have more that 1 plug in working & some of the video Transitions struggle as well. Not to bothered about sound as I have a Denon controller with a build in sound card for that..

No, that Sony hasn't got dedicated graphics.
It might still be OK for video, but to be sure, you should look for dedicated graphics (with its own RAM).
So that we know where we're going here, what's the spec of your current laptop?

Hello, May I suggest maybe a Dell brand laptop, I mostly use Dell Systems and had no issues..you can custom build what you want, you just have to "customize" the build when ordering..I have used HP brand and Toshiba Satelite series laptops, Toshiba & Dell seem to be the best with hardware features.
Thanks, Jeff
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff .. I have heard people having trouble with dell & VDJ in the past .. ?

Steve,
Rather than posting the full specs each time, you need to concentrate on the main features also while not important for VDJ right now, but you are buying on the cusp of v8 availability and you need to be future proofed as much as you can.
Main things to consider:

Main things to consider:
- Intel CPU min spec i3, if you can i5. You won't get an i7 for < £500
- 64bit OS
- RAM the more the better
- Video stay away from "shared system memory" systems - these eat out of your RAM and also cannot be considered "dedicated" which you will need for video
- Sound card shouldn't be an issue if you are using a good quality controller or sound card
Also check out eBuyer
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Roy
