Topic: Video playback freezes during certain older music videos

This topic is old and might contain outdated or incorrect information.

Hello,

I am having some issues with all of my older music videos that I encoded on a Mac a long time ago using 3ivx mp4 but saved in a .mov container. I have a new Macbook Pro running VDJ in 64bit Windows 8. Whenever I play one of these older videos, the video will freeze and won't start again until I go into the settings and disable, then re-enable video output. The music does not stop and VDJ is fully operable. Once the video freezes nothing will get it playing again until it is reset as mentioned in the last sentence. Not even playing another song with a know-to-work video will get it moving again.

It's a new rig, so it might be because I need to install a codec pack, but VDJ uses its own internal codecs, correct? Should I install something like K-Lite and give that a try? Do I need to make a change in VDJ settings so that it uses the new codecs? These videos used to play just fine in older versions of VDJ, but that was on a different computer under Windows 7 32bit. I can't remember if that computer had a codec pack installed or not. Any ideas?

VDJ system: MacBook Pro Intel Core i7 quad core 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB, 256GB SSD and 500GB HDD, running Bootcamped 64bit Windows 8, no other apps installed, just VDJ on 20GB partition.

anyone? just a bump to get this back on the front page. I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas as to the problem. Thanks

This definitely sounds like a codec issue.
I would suggest re-encoding using a standard codec. There are many utilities out there to do this, but probably the most versatile and powerful (and free) is VLC, but it is not very user friendly. Another, slightly more friendly, slightly less powerful one is VirtualDub which I had used in the past to great success before discovering VLC. Others will probably have better suggestions if you're looking for ease of use.

Also, instead of going into the settings to disable/enable video, you should be able to click on the main video preview window in the skin to disable and re-enable video. Depending on how deep the video bug lives, this may clear the issue temporarily.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have nearly 3000 of these videos so re-encoding them is not going to work. The strange thing is that I have been using VDJ for years with these vids without ANY issues. It's just with the new computer/VDJ combo that I have been experiencing the freezing issue. I guess I need to do some tests, starting with using an earlier version of VDJ to see if the latest version is where the problem lies. Is there anywhere to check what changes have been made to the VDJ video codecs through all the version updates? Is there a way to install into the latest VDJ version codecs from older versions?

Did you ever find a salutation? I'm having the same problem!

If you have 2 video cards installed, make sure VDJ uses the stronger one.

Worth a shot, I would try rename a couple of those old videos from *.mov (apple format) to *.mp4
Not entirely sure how the *.mov container does it, but might just be a header file for Mac.

Mp4 is fully supported and recommended on the PC platform, try see if that sorts it

(and dont worry, you can always rename back to *.mov after testing it)

I get similar problems with my newer video. I load a newer mp4 video and once to twice a night I must uncheck video card and then ok. Then check it back on and it starts working fine again. I use xtenda mix video pool. Hard to say how long it's been acting this way but it's been a long time. I never made issue out of it as it takes 2 secs to do the off/on thing and I got use to doing it. I never saw other complaints in the forum so I thought it's just my computer.

I also have a lot of older promo only vids that once I load to a player shows error so I changed the video codec to WMP and they work fine.

Agree with Rob - i use it for years and it's woth every cent i pay for it.
