Hey I was looking to get a new mic, right now I'm using a $20 Samson I got from Best Buy its ok but it seems like I need to hold it close to my mouth when I speak. Wanted to know if you guys have any recommendations on a nice one don't want to spend more than $100. I will use it with my DDJ-SX it has XLR and 1/4 inputs. Also what about a USB mic so I can add effects to my voice. Thanks

I would suggest going to a guitar center and trying out the Sennheiser E835 or the Shure SM58. They are both 99 bux and are both great mics. Let your ears decide. I prefer the sennheiser over the shure. The sound is not as flat and has a better low end.

As for a usb mic there is really only one good choice and thats the Snowball from Blue.

Will check those out thanks

The Shure SM58 is one of the favourits of many mobile dj`s....

Its a favorite among lots of Pro Audio folks. Mainly because the SM58 is virtually indestructible. It was made for the military. You can put a nail through the diaphragm and it will still work.

I just mainly dont like the sound of it when compared to the E835. Too flat sounding as if there is no life, not to mention I have to be too close to the mic to get my preferred volume out of the SM58.

its a bit more money but the beta 87c is the answer to the flat sounding 58 also you should check out the beta 58a

True the betas are better sounding, however the 87 is an condenser and I havent seen many mixers or controllers for that matter that have phantom power. The beta 58 is pretty good, however I think in a DJ environment you would be battling feedback more often based on the pickup pattern (Wide cardioid if my memory serves me right)

I used to be a pro audio guy and have setup sound systems and mixed live shows NUMEROUS times.

The Shure 58 is an industry standard dating back decades. Cyder turned me onto some video on YouTube of the 58 being brutalized and, still working like a champ. The price for a 58 has been around $100.00US for twenty years. Really can't go wrong with it....
