I've been using VDJ home free for the past few months and that's what I'm most comfortable with. I just recently bought a numark mixtrack pro, as it's my first deck, and it came with serato dj intro, which I don't really wanna use. I plug in my mixtrack and start up VDJ and it only lets me use the mixer for 5-10 minutes then shuts off and tells me I need to buy the full version. What version do I need to buy and how much is it? Also, when I buy this full version how do I go about getting new plugins? I'm tired of just using the reverb and the flanger, it's getting really old lol. Thanks

VDJ Home Free is just a demo. Thats why it only works 10 min at a time. Unfortunately Numark switched to serato instead of staying with VDJ and providing new users with the LE version. VDJ Pro/Full is the way to go. You can use this specific controller and many more that are native supported by VDJ.
In regards to plugins...Yes you will have access to lots of downloads. This includes skins, all effects, tools even controller mappings. Its as easy as logging in with VDJ Pro and click DOWNLOAD!

Also just purchased the Numark Mixtrack Pro and was surprised when it came with Serato rather than VDJ LE as advertised. I am completely new to this and think going straight for VDJ Pro is a massive leap, especially if I discover later it is perhaps not for me. I considered VDJ Home, but reading the above about you can only use it 5 - 10 mins at a time makes me have second thoughts. Can I start with VDJ Broadcaster or VDJ Pro Basic or other instead? My only concern is the statement below about these not working with MIDI controllers or am I reading wrong?
PLEASE NOTE: When using a mixer, only analog mixers can be use with VirtualDJ Pro Basic. If you own a mixer that is MIDI or HID capable, the mixer is considered a 'controller'; you will need VirtualDJ Pro FULL to use the MIDI or HID capablities of the mixer (controller).

No, VirtualDJ Broadcaster and Basic will not work with MixTrack Pro (Except for 10 minutes as a trial, the same as Home FREE) - The only versions that support using MIDI controllers is the full VirtualDJ Pro or VirtualDJ LE, which is limited to the hardware that its included with.
You could try contacting the manufacturer Numark support http://www.numark.com and ask them whether you could exchange the included Serato software for VirtualDJ LE instead.
Otherwise, you will need to purchase the full VirtualDJ Professional to be able to use it with VirtualDJ: http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

I too struggled to find my MTP with VDJ.
Started with Pro Basic, and external soundcard/mixer, which was sufficient for a while.
Then saw the MTP advertised on Amazon with VDJ, so rushed out and snapped up, found out it was supplied with Traktor and Serato LE's. I contacted the seller, asked if they would swap for VDJ, and sadly they wouldn't. Felt a little ripped off having to buy VDJ Pro Full, but now I have, am well pleased I invested - I'm future-proofed. Free software updates for life, and can plug just about any controller in (plus the MTP has resale value, as the supplied software hasn't been registered, as will future controllers).
Have also tried using my old external mixer for crossfading (no latency issues with analog crossfading, nice and immediate!) and gains, with the MTP on the side controlling pitch, effects and loops. Its a mess of wires, but damn its the closest I can get to two decks and analog mixer without forking out for two decks.
I've since landed a gig on an internet radio station (using Broadcaster, included in Full), and dowloaded a bevy of effects, samples, skins and mappers. AND a desktop walpaper! Now it really is MY VDJ and controller, because I've made it my own.
Well worth the pennies. And the time configuring it, to make it yours.
